A psychiatric assessment and/or evaluation is a diagnostic tool used in psychiatry to diagnose problems with memory, thought processes, and behaviors. Through these assessments, any mental health issues can be identified treated.

• Dr. Ife has the knowledge and experience to perform psychiatric assessments to determine if the use of psychotropic medication is needed as part of the treatment for any diagnosed mental disorders.
• This assessment will be based on factors including your symptoms, diagnosis, and medical history. 

Based on your assessment, Dr. Ife will then make a diagnosis and develop a treatment plan designed with your specific needs in mind. 

• Dr. Ife will be able to identify an accurate diagnosis based on information gathered from your outside provider (if applicable), combined with what she learns about you during the initial intake session.

• An accurate diagnosis will, in turn, inform which medicines Dr. Ife may choose to administer to you, if appropriate and beneficial to your treatment.

• After the initial intake and a diagnosis has been made, Dr. Ife will help you create an individualized comprehensive treatment plan specially designed to meet your needs and provide direction towards growth and healing.

The goal of our medication management service is to diminish the effects and symptoms that individuals are experiencing as a result of mental illness, substance use disorder, and intellectual disabilities disorder or combinations thereof. 

• Dr. Ife can prescribe medication to help you regain proper balance in the chemistry of the brain, and restore optimal functioning. 
• She will discuss the goals, risks/benefits, and purposes of each medication prescribed.
• Dr. Ife will monitor and evaluate your psychotropic medication prescription compliance, side effects, and the effectiveness of the medications on your level of functioning.

• Medication can be an effective part of treatment for many mental illnesses such as: anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorder, panic attacks/disorder, sleep problems, ADHD, and schizophrenia.

• In addition to medication, other forms of treatment such as counseling, life management skills, and behavioral therapies may be offered in conjunction. Dr. Ife will carefully monitor all of these components to ensure the best blend for your mental health.

Medications and coping strategies can help reduce your biological predisposition (vulnerability) and treat your symptoms of mental illness. Both can be powerful tools in your journey toward recovery.

How can medications help with your symptoms? 

• It is possible that mental illnesses are related to an imbalance of chemicals in the cells of the brain. Taking prescribed medications can work to correct the imbalance.
• By taking your medications regularly, you can lower the intensity of many symptoms, and specifically improve your concentration, mood, and ability to achieve your goals. Making your medications a priority over time can decrease your symptoms, prevent relapses and hospital stays, and improve the quality of your life.
• You can move toward recovery by being informed about your prescribed medications and taking them regularly. Talk to your nurse or health care provider if you need education about a specific medication.

Medications are just one tool that a psychiatrist may use to help manage your condition. Medications can be used alone or in combination with other therapies, such as talk-therapy, to effectively treat mental health disorders.
