Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) is a free mentorship program for children who struggle with their mental health. To qualify for the program, the individual must have Maryland Medicaid and have an impairment such as an emotional disturbance or behavioral issue that affects their home and/or school life. The program is based on the recovery and person-centered models of rehabilitation. Through the program, children are provided with the resources and support to reach a higher level of independence, success, and fulfillment in their lives.Â
Â
By participating in the program, participants are provided with:
Â
- A life coach/mentor to help guide them
- Skills and support to embrace their mental wellness
- Tools to enhance the quality of their life
- Encouragement and guidance to pursue personally valued roles in their living, learning, work and social environments
The purpose of the program is to:
Â
- Promote recovery and resiliency
- Empower the individual so that they may function successfully and live as independently as possible in their community
- All PRP participants will receive high-quality, person-centered services tailored to their individual needs. With the support of their mentor, participants will live successfully in their community equipped with the tools and resources to address living, working, mental, emotional and social functioning.
Â
As a result of having an increased access to mental health care services and support, it is our hope that all participants will have a reduced use of more intensive interventions.
